Welcome to Year 4

Meet the Year 4 team!

The team is made up of:

4MF - Melanie Fidge

4ML - Mary Lawson

4AW - Adam Webb

Our amazing Teaching Assistant is Charlotte Husk.

Weekly Homework Expectations

In Year 4, the focus for Prep is on improving core skills (reading, spelling, times tables).

Prep that will be expected to be completed at home will be:

  • 5 Home Reads - the reading records will be collected on a FRIDAY morning to go through the number completed.

  • Spellings - will be set on a Friday through Google Classroom (Year 4 English) and then tested the next FRIDAY. The spellings are linked to work and rules that has been taught in the lesson.

  • Times Tables- you will be tested 3 times a week and need to score 40/45 in order to move onto the next times table. You have 2.5 minutes to complete the questions. We would also encourage all children to practise their times tables at home (remember we have access to Times Table Rockstars and also recommend websites like Hit the Button).

  • French Vocabulary - words/ spellings will be posted on the Year 4 French Google Classroom. You need to practise these for your next French lesson (say them aloud, write them down, even sing the words!). Mrs Fidge will be teaching Year 4 French this year and will check your progress on learning key vocabulary.

Termly home learning projects

Each half-term, alongside weekly preps, you will be offered a range of independent projects which are linked with your learning. You will be given the half term to complete at least two projects and we then bring them to display at school. We will make sure the choices are printed and given to pupils as well as posted in the relevant Google Classroom (4MF/4ML/4AW).

What might be different in the Autumn term?

We will not be having matches against other schools in the Autumn term. Year 4 will form a year group bubble with each class pod having most of their lessons in their classroom. We will be in Maths sets after an initial settling in period and will move for some lessons, for example, Art and DT.

All information on logistics and guidelines to follow in school can be found in the Welcome Back Years 3 to 5 document.
