Welcome to Year 5

Year 5 team

In Year 5, your child will have lots of different specialist teachers to learn from. We also have two amazing class teachers who will look after your child pastorally:

5MHF Michael Hamilton-Foyn

5MN - Mary Norris

Both are delighted to have the chance to take care of Year 5 this year!

What is new in Year 5?

French - Mr Floyd will take you for two lessons a week. Follow this link to find out more:

Year 5 Mentors- Now that you are at the top of the Juniors you will have the opportunity of having more responsibility. Everybody will have the opportunity to become a Year 5 mentor at some point in the academic year. When it is your turn at being a mentor, you will have the opportunity to help out with Pre-Prep play times and shared reading, junior assemblies and being a mentor to the other Junior children at break times.

How do we prepare you for the Seniors?

Academics: As you progress through the year the academic expectations will become greater. You will find that the pace of the lessons increase and we also expect you to become more independent in your learning. The home learning journals are a great way to help you take responsibility for your learning and increase your independence.

Pastoral: When you enter the seniors you will be looked after by a tutor. This teacher will be your tutor for the next three years. In the summer term of Year 5, your parents will be invited to a Meet the Tutor Evening where they will get to find out more about the senior part of the school. Over the final two terms in Year 5, it is a good idea for you to think about which teacher would support pastoral and academic needs.

Future Schools: Year 5 is good time to know where you would like to go after you have left Walhampton. Some of you may already know which school you will going to. For those of you that are not yet sure, we suggest that your parents come in and have a chat with your form teacher. Two good questions to start with are:

Boarding or day school?

Single sex or Co-educational?
